Voskresensky about 2020 events: Belarus stayed safe only thanks to Lukashenko's will and uncompromising position

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – It was only thanks to the will and uncompromising position of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko that the country was saved in 2020, public figure, member of the Constitutional Commission in 2021 Yuri Voskresensky said in the ONT documentary "One for All" dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the institution of the presidency in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

"We are kind of hardwired to want change. Either then, in 2020, or in the 1990s, people knew what kind of change they wanted. A huge number of IT specialists took to the streets. They received colossal benefits from the president. They paid one of the smallest taxes in the world, yet they wanted change," Yuri Voskresensky said. “Only Lukashenko's will, his uncompromising position saved the country. At that time, many of us did not understand this."

Former Chairwoman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina admitted that 2020 took her aback: "I never thought that so many people who grew up in prosperity would suddenly turn against their homeland, their state. Such rapid changes of heart are common for family members. You know, when a family fights calling each other names, and then half an hour later they have tea together. It was something like this."
