Volodin: Belarus, Russia need to stand together to overcome challenges

MINSK, 2 July (BelTA) – Only by standing shoulder to shoulder will Belarus and Russia be able to overcome the challenges facing them, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin told reporters in Minsk on 2 July, BelTA has learned.

Vyacheslav Volodin arrived in Belarus upon instructions of President of Russia Vladimir Putin. On behalf of Russia he will participate in festivities on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders.

“This is an opportunity for us to recall the events that happened 80 years ago and, of course, to carry the memory further, pass it on to our children and grandchildren. We must draw conclusions from it, preserve this memory, and do everything to make our states prosper because only by increasing our efficiency will we be able to defend our peoples, our countries against the challenges of today,” said the State Duma speaker.

He believes that only together, shoulder to shoulder, will Belarus and Russia be able to effectively overcome the enormous challenges facing them. To do this, it is necessary to bring together the available capabilities.

According to Vyacheslav Volodin, participation in such events is a good opportunity to meet with Belarusian counterparts and compare notes on the bilateral agenda. “Our parliaments are making a meaningful contribution to the formation of a common legal field. We are looking for new cooperation formats in order to make the work within the parliamentary dimension more effective. We are destined to be friends, as we have shared history and we have common Victory in the Great Patriotic War. We should make sure that this friendship will live on with our descendants,” he emphasized.

“We are determined to work hard and to use our inter-parliamentary cooperation as a tool to develop the Union State. This should benefit the economies and people of Russia and Belarus. This is what we see as our task,” the parliamentarian said.

Vyacheslav Volodin added that relations between the two countries are exemplary in all areas. According to him, those who want to teach Belarus and Russia how to build bilateral relations should have a look at the Union State at first.

“Some people want to force their approaches and views on others, but we are in favor of a multipolar world, a fair world order,” he added.
