MOSCOW, 5 November (BelTA) – Following the annual meeting of CIS Security Council Secretaries held in Moscow on 5 November, State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich drew the attention to the problem of accumulated weapons in Ukraine, BelTA has learned.

“It is a cause for concern that there is an accumulation of a significant number of weapons in Ukraine. Currently, the civilian population and various armed groups in the country possess more than 150,000 weapons of various types. Some of these groups are even prepared to operate on Belarusian territory,” the secretary said.

“Sooner or later, these weapons will start to spread across the CIS, especially after the end of the special military operation. This once again will lead to certain threats to the security and lives of our citizens. This is a common problem that needs to be addressed,” Aleksandr Volfovich emphasized.

He urged his colleagues from the CIS countries to raise this issue at international forums and in their interactions with representatives from the United States and other Western nations.
