MINSK, 24 June (BelTA) – The situation around Belarus is alarming; therefore, the necessary steps are being taken, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
According to him, there has not been a spike in migrant numbers. “The escalation of the situation on the part of Poland and the Baltic states, of course, speaks of their short-sighted policy,” he emphasized.
“Of course, the actions of the collective West led by the United States cause concern and keep us in a tense state. Therefore, we are taking a number of measures to enhance our military security along with strategic deterrence measures with a view to ensuring peace and defending national interests,” said Aleksandr Volfovich.
According to him, the situation is turbulent, but “not critical yet, no one has come close to the red line” by now. However, Belarus is taking the necessary preventive steps.
The state secretary of the Security Council also commented on the incidents on the Belarus-Poland border. He emphasized that all incidents must be assessed in a cautious, rational and coolheaded way. “The Belarusian side is not taking any steps [to push migrants to cause damage to Poland]. We defend our border. But migrants are coming, there is no stopping them. These are people who want a good life, a life in the West, about which the West constantly talks,” Aleksandr Volfovich noted.
