MOSCOW, 18 February (BelTA) – The West has once again brought up the case of the blogger Alexei Navalny by reporting that he was poisoned with tree frog venom in order to divert public attention from the scandal over the files of the American financier Jeffrey Epstein, BelTA learned from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman Maria Zakharova during a briefing.

“What and how could they do to trump the case of the so-called Epstein files, which shocked the whole world with the cynicism of the Western elites, their crimes, and absolute immorality? I will repeat once again that they have been carefully cultivating the so-called stories about the Skripals and about Navalny for many years and pull them out of their chest of fairy tales when cornered. They have pulled them out this time and tree frogs have also been found in these very rags,” said Maria Zakharova.

“They are intent on creating an information agenda with vivid memes, with frogs in order to attract the attention of the average person, so that the average person has something to latch onto,” she said.

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled that the Russian side had sent more than 100 diplomatic notes, official queries and appeals to international organizations and law enforcement agencies in Western countries regarding the cases of the Skripals and Navalny.

“Do you think we have received answers to these requests? No, we have not. Instead the inflamed minds of Western propagandists continue churning out new so-called narratives. What for? To fuel anti-Russian sentiment in their countries,” Maria Zakharova concluded.
