MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) - Belarus is an important partner of Vietnam in the region and the relations between our countries are very important, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam said during a meeting with Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova and Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko, BelTA learned.
According to To Lam, his visit to Belarus is another chapter in the development of the traditional friendship between Belarus and Vietnam."We want to confirm that the relations between our countries are very important for us, and that we view Belarus as an important partner in the region. We hope that these relations will continuously develop for the benefit of the two peoples," To Lam said.

"Today we signed a joint statement with President Lukashenko to establish a strategic partnership. We want to take our bilateral relations to a new level, to a new era, a new era of development," To Lam noted. “I suggest that we focus on the following areas. First, we very much hope that you will be able to pay an official visit to Vietnam soon. Within the framework of this visit, we will be able to sign a new agreement on cooperation between the parliaments of our two countries. The previous agreement was signed long ago, and we need to update it."
"We also need to strengthen and enhance the exchange of delegations between the Communist Party of Vietnam and Belarusian political parties, parliamentary friendship groups and youth parliamentary groups between our countries. It is also important that we strengthen the exchange of information on experience in party, legislative work, parliamentary activities, inspection and oversight work, and work with society. We also need to step up control over the implementation of the documents on cooperation concluded between ministries, agencies and regions of our two countries," To Lam emphasized. “We need to increase the participation of delegations in multilateral parliamentary events held in each country and develop joint initiatives in these forums. We also believe that trade and economic cooperation is a pillar of our cooperation and has a great potential. We know that Belarus is chairing the EAEU this year. We want to develop cooperation within the framework of the free trade agreement.”
