Vietnam officially becomes BRICS partner country

MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – Vietnam has joined BRICS as a partner country. The news was confirmed by Pham Thu Hang, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, TASS reports.

Commenting on reports of foreign mass media, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman confirmed that Brazil, which chairs BRICS at present, has given Vietnam the status of the association’s partner. As a BRICS partner country Vietnam would like to make an active contribution to enhancing the voice and the role of developing countries, would like to promote international solidarity and an inclusive multilateral approach based on respect for international law.

Pham Thu Hang pointed out that within the framework of international integration Vietnam makes a practical contribution to the work of multilateral mechanisms, organizations, and forums, thus facilitating peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and in the entire world. According to the spokeswoman, the acquisition of the BRICS partner country status by Vietnam reaffirms the country’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of external relations in order to be a friend, a reliable partner, and a proactive and responsible member of the international community.

Vietnam is BRICS’ tenth partner country.
