MINSK, 15 November (BelTA) – In the current conditions, it is very important to maintain dialogue on combating illegal migration, UNHCR representative Christine Goyer said at the international conference in Minsk to discuss regional cooperation in combating illegal migration, BelTA has learned.
“It is paramount to maintain dialogue on such difficult issues as illegal migration,” she stressed. According to her, there are more than 123 million displaced persons in the world, about 45 million people were forced to leave their countries, 75% of the total number of refugees are from low- and middle-income countries. Many of these countries cannot meet basic needs of their own people, and as a result, too many refugees do not receive sufficient protection, access to rights and services, the labor market, which forces many to move on and seek protection in other countries.
