MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – The program “The Failure of a Samurai from Tokyo” aired by the Belarus 1 TV channel showed that Japanese spy Masatoshi Nakanishi actively communicated with the staff of the Japanese Embassy in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The broadcaster noted that the meetings were usually held in an informal rather than businesslike setting and discussed very delicate issues. For ethical and diplomatic reasons, the journalists were asked not to reveal the Japanese embassy employee who gave instructions to Masatoshi Nakanishi. Only his name was mentioned - Yasushi.

“The Japanese special service is a well-established structure with its own style. It is widely used by government agencies in their domestic and foreign policy. A distinctive feature of the Japanese intelligence is recruiting assets either on the territory of third countries or directly in Japan,” said retired Major General, Head of Military Counterintelligence in 2008-2012, expert in countering foreign intelligence services Aleksei Zakharov. “They did not deviate from this practice in this case. The recruitment was done in Japan, the agent was trained there and sent to the Republic of Belarus, to the city of Gomel,” he added.
