MINSK, 2 December (BelTA) - In the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel Russian political scientist and orientalist Karine Gevorgyan analyzed the position of U.S. President Donald Trump on the peace issue in Ukraine and named the primary goal of the country’s leader.
The discussion of the U.S. peace plan for settling the conflict in Ukraine remains relevant on the global agenda, yet there is no progressive movement in resolving the issue.

The expert recalled that the U.S. leader is a practical, calculating man with a sense of drama. “I was surprised at the time to learn that his favorite literary work is All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. He practically knows it by heart, and it’s a very complex work; Remarque is a very complex writer. I think he has read more than just this one book by Remarque. At the very least, European history, the history of wars and the suffering of lost generations, etc. He probably reflected on it; it’s unlikely he just read it, tossed it aside, and only reads comics. No, that’s not the case,” she added, filling in more details of Donald Trump’s portrait.

In the political scientist’s opinion, the U.S. president has a clear understanding regarding the peace issue. “What does he understand? That the plan has emerged, Russia will continue to move forward, and for him, for obvious reasons, this is a toxic asset from which he gained nothing. Had he gained something, he would have acted differently,” she stated.

The expert also pointed to the active agenda surrounding Donald Trump himself. “Simultaneously, like a bomb, comes the issue that everyone had been discussing before, saying Trump is afraid of the Epstein case because he himself is implicated in it. How did he endure that dramatic pause worthy of the Moscow Art Theatre? He is playing and staging his own game. His task is to strengthen his own power and, undoubtedly, the sovereignty of his own country, which is being violated by all and sundry: ultraglobalists, a Europe that wants to survive at America’s expense, and so on,” said Karine Gevorgyan, emphasizing that she does not intend to evoke sympathy with these words.

“Let us focus on ourselves. But Trump’s task is indeed to create conditions so that capital, like public support, grows within the United States itself, so that he truly becomes popular in the U.S. itself. This would allow him to pursue a confident, sovereign foreign and domestic policy,” the Russian political scientist said.
