Truckers complain about closure of Polish border crossing at Belarusian border

GRODNO, 9 November (BelTA) – Truck drivers and cargo owners will suffer due to the closure of the Polish border crossing Kuznica Bialostocka. It is the opinion of the drivers, whose trucks are parked at the border crossing Bruzgi on the Belarusian side of the border, BelTA has learned.

In the evening on 8 November it was reported that the international automobile border checkpoint Kuznica Bialostocka will be closed to traffic the next day. No individuals or vehicles willing to cross the Belarusian-Polish border will be cleared.

The move was unexpected for many truck drivers, who traditionally use this border crossing as the most convenient one from the point of view of logistics.

One of them said: “We've been parked here since one in the morning. We don't know what to do yet. We are losing time and money.” The truck is carrying a cargo intended for a Polish recipient. The truck driver said he would not like to drive to the neighboring border crossing Berestovitsa because he expects long queues over there due to the closure of the border crossing Kuznica Bialostocka.

Another driver with a cargo intended for a German customer explained he has to cross the border via the border crossing Kuznica Bialostocka due to customs peculiarities. In his words, the shipping company and the cargo recipient will lose money if he cannot cross the border here.

Another truck driver explained the closure of the Polish border checkpoint may hurt the overall ability to cross the border. “I've already contacted colleagues on the other side. This morning the line of trucks willing to enter Belarus via Kuznica Bialostocka was already as long as 16km. The situation may become so bad that the line of semi-trucks will stretch all the way to the city of Bialystok,” the man concluded.

Belarus sees no objective reasons for such a decision. When Poland decides to resume the operation of its border crossing point, Belarus is ready to secure the work of its border checkpoint in a routine mode,” the committee said.

BelTA previously quoted the State Border Committee of Belarus as saying they do not see any objective reasons for Poland's decision to close the border crossing Kuznica Bialostocka. The Belarusian side is ready to resume routine work once the Polish border crossing is reopened, the source noted.

The Belarusian border service advises travelers to bear in mind the situation. The closest crossing is Berestovitsa (Bobrowniki on the Polish side of the border).
