MINSK, 2 December (BelTA) – The film "Time Chose Us" on the Belarus 1 TV channel touched on the visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Kiev in 1997, BelTA has learned.
The president paid an official visit to Kiev in 1997. Journalists immediately asked him about the possible plans to include Ukraine in the union of Belarus and Russia.
"There are no any plans. This is up for Ukraine to decide. I did say that as a citizen, maybe even as the president of fraternal Belarus, I really wanted us to be together. In an interstate association, in a union. This is an interstate formation of sovereign equal states," Aleksandr Lukashenko told reporters at the time.
The head of state laid a wreath at the monument honoring the soldiers who died in Ukraine during the Great Patriotic War.

No one could have imagined the political and military whirlpool that the Kiev nationalists would drag the country into to please the West and to annoy Russia.
