MINSK, 19 August (BelTA) - The third pan-Belarusian procession with the cross will cover 250km in nine days, BelTA has learned from the website of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.
The procession is timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Synaxis of Belarusian Saints. It started from the Holy Dormition Zhirovichi Monastery on 18 August. The procession was preceded by Divine Liturgy and a prayer service led by Superior of the Holy Dormition Monastery, Archbishop Gury of Novogrudok and Slonim at the Yavlensky church of the Zhirovichi monastery. His Eminence was accompanied by the monastic brethren, clergy of the eparchy and clergymen from different parts of Belarus who had arrived to take part in the procession.
The route of the pilgrims will pass through four dioceses and 21 churches. The procession will end with Divine Liturgy at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Minsk on 26 August, on the feast of the Minsk Icon of the Mother of God.
Everyone can join the procession at any point of the route.
