Student of Belarusian National Technical University named Belarus' first coronavirus case

MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – A student of Belarusian National Technical University was diagnosed with coronavirus, which is Belarus' first case of the infection so far, Belarusian Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik told reporters on 28 February, BelTA has learned.

“The university where the coronavirus patient studies will switch to the individual learning program. This university is Belarusian National Technical University,” the minister said.

Speaking about the way the virus was revealed, the minister said that the young man was asked to come to Minsk Polyclinic No.33. The student did not voice any concerns during the examination. “However, the healthcare workers were alarmed by the low-grade fever of 37.3° C and some redness in his throat. He was taken to Minsk Hospital of Infectious Diseases where a swab test was done. The test came back positive. Now we are working to identify the strain of this virus,” Vladimir Karanik said.

“We have immediately demonstrated openness and informed the public and the World Health Organization about it,” the minister underlined.
