Storm plows through Lukashenko's field in Alexandria. What are experts' harvest forecasts?

MINSK, 21 July (BelTA) - The impact of the recent storm on the crops at the presidential field in Alexandria was discussed in the Vremya Pervogo [Time of the First] project on the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

The presidential field in Alexandria has been used for testing various crops for a number of years. Winter barley was first introduced here and now it is cultivated across the country. The recent storm has unfortunately flattened many hectares of crops.

“Thanks to our technology, this is not critical. I believe we will manage to harvest everything,” Aleksei Slesarev, chief agronomist at the Aleksandriyskoye agricultural company, said. “Our harvesters are equipped with crop lifters.”

The experimental crops are not under threat, Leonid Zayats, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic and Presidential Aide for Mogilev Oblast, confirmed. “This year, spring wheat of both domestic and foreign varieties have been sown there. Spring wheat varieties usually perform well. However, only Belarusian varieties withstood the impact of the recent extreme wind conditions,” Leonid Zayats said.

The foreign varieties have been lifted as well, but it is the Belarusian varieties that are expected to show high yields.
