MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – MPs should keep the public informed about progress to draft regular bills, Chairman of the House of Representatives Igor Sergeyenko said at the second session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the eighth convocation, BelTA has learned.

“The House of Representatives is holding its third meeting this year. The standing committees have promptly assigned deputies to work on bills included in the 2025 plan that was approved by the head of state. Authorized government agencies have begun forming interdepartmental working groups to draft bills. These groups include deputies and employees of the Secretariat of the House of Representatives,” said Igor Sergeyenko. “I am sure that media reports about the progress to draft bills before they are submitted to the House of Representatives will be of great interest not only to voters, but also to law enforcement. Deputies should get actively involved in updating the public on the progress to prepare planned bills,” he added.

The speaker recalled that, in accordance with the Constitution, each deputy has the right to legislative initiative. “This implies proactive work on bills that are to be approved by respective parties and submitted to the House of Representatives. I expect specific proposals on bills from those present so that the work on them can be started by specialized commissions and parliamentarians' activities can be scheduled,” the speaker said.
