GOMEL, 11 December (BelTA) – Representatives of the road maintenance department of the city administration of the Russian city of Magnitogorsk are interested in studying the beautification experience in Gomel, BelTA has learned.
A delegation from the Russian city of Magnitogorsk is in Gomel in order to get familiar with the local practices of maintenance and beautification of territories. Accomplishments of Gomel housing and utility services enterprises are in the center of attention. The delegation is expected to visit the road maintenance enterprise GorSAP, the public works vehicle manufacturer Spetskommuntrans, and wastewater treatment facilities of the water supply and wastewater treatment enterprise Gomelvodokanal. A number of public works vehicles will be demonstrated.
It is the first visit to Gomel for Deputy Head of the Magnitogorsk Road Maintenance Department Yuli Elbakidze. He said: “I wanted to see everything with my own eyes. We've heard a lot about Gomel. We can already see results of proper maintenance. We were pleasantly surprised by clean streets and roads. We are interested in the approaches used to clean and maintain roads and streets, to separately collect waste, in the operation of the local waste landfill and the operation of the water supply and wastewater treatment enterprise.” Members of the delegation intend to talk to representatives of municipal enterprises. According to Yuli Elbakidze, they intend to use some of the local practices in Magnitogorsk.
According to Director General of the Gomel City Housing and Utilities Enterprise Viktor Kulago, the city enterprise combines 17 individual enterprises, which are responsible for the maintenance of the housing stock, roads, and bridges, for the beautification and landscaping in parts of the city, for water supply and wastewater treatment.
The latest novelties include the introduction of separate waste collection in low-rise areas. Owners of single-family houses are issued special containers. The waste is picked up on schedule. The enterprise intends to spread the practice onto the entire low-rise area soon.
The city road maintenance department is responsible for the maintenance of 570km of roads. As many as 80% of the roads have asphalt and concrete surface. Housing operation and maintenance enterprises cater to 7 million m2 of the housing stock.
Gomel City First Vice Mayor Aleksandr Sivakov said the city administration recently won the cities of oblast subordination nomination of the national contest that reviewed the sanitary status and beautification of populated communities. It was the fifth award Gomel had received in the last eight years. The official said the city administration intends to continue improving its work.
