Over 80 events on Minsk events calendar 2019

MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) – Over 80 events are featured in the Minsk events calendar 2019 for tourists published on the website of the Minsk City Hall, BelTA has learned.

For example, tourists are invited to discover Belarusian rites and rituals. In particular, the Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Lifestyle in the village of Ozertso will arrange folk festivals Shchodryk, Gramnitsy (Candlemass), Love Belarus-Style, Maslenitsa (Butter Week), Shrove Sunday, Spring Calling, Palm Sunday, Yurie, Ancient Ivan Kupala rite, Zazhynki spring planting festival, Dazhynki and Bagach harvest festivals, Kalyady, and other events. The Museum of Old Folk Crafts and Technologies Dudutki also has many interesting events on offer.

One of the key events of the year will be the 2nd European Games that will take place in Minsk on 21-30 June. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete for 199 sets of awards in 15 sports. The competitions in nine sports will offer qualification opportunities for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The Minsk International Film Festival Listapad traditionally held in November is one of the visiting cards of the capital city. The Christmas Opera Forum will wrap up the cultural program in December.

The playbill also features concerts of Belarusian and foreign artists, art groups, sports events, festivals. Sports enthusiasts will be happy to attend the ISU European Figure Skating Championships, IBU Biathlon European Championships and The Legends' Race, International Track Cycling Competition Grand Prix Minsk, Minsk Half Marathon, and others. Minsk Jazz and Yuri Bashmet International Festival will bring outstanding musicians to the Belarusian capital.

The concert halls and museums are working on the thematic programs to celebrate 23 February, 8 March, 9 May, Independence Day, City Day, Christmas and New Year holidays.

The most eventful will be May as Minsk will host the VIVA Rovar bicycle festival, the Vyasnovy Buket (Spring Bouquet) crafts fair, the Museums at Night campaign, an electronic music festival, a healthy lifestyle fest. The summer musical tourist season will be officially launched in the Upper Town.

Minsk will host such festivals as the Era of Chivalry, Ulyotny fest of aviation enthusiasts, Our Grunwald in the summer. The autumn calendar will feature H.O.G. Rally Minsk, Minsk Starazhytny international festival of history reenactment, Kamyanitsa folk fest and the TEART theater arts festival.
