MOSCOW, 31 October (BelTA) - The Union State is a successful example and a cornerstone of the development of integration in Eurasia, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor of MGIMO at the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexey Kuznetsov told a press conference, BelTA has learned.
"I do not think that anything threatens the prospects of the Union State," Alexey Kuznetsov said when asked whether the Union State will fade into the background in connection with the development of integration within the framework of the EAEU, SCO and BRICS. “We need to be realistic: it is the Union State that is the successful core of integration projects in Greater Eurasia. It is within the framework of the Union State that we have the largest number of successful examples. Some of them have already been replicated in the EAEU, and therefore, perhaps, the Union State is somewhere in the shadows in the eyes of the public. But I think that Russian-Belarusian relations are distinguished by the freedom of movement of people and specialists, close work at the intellectual level with the eye on achieving synergy.”
"We quickly get used to good things and do not notice that the EAEU is a successfully developing organization. With a limited number of participants, our contradictions between Russia and Belarus are mainly of a technical nature, and this is normal. I would say that it is very good that we have a discussion going on inside," the expert said.
"Therefore, I do not think that the EAEU and SCO will somehow obershadow the cooperation in the Union State," Alexey Kuznetsov emphasized.
"As for BRICS, the task is to turn this platform into a more active player. So far, unfortunately, it has been more of a symbol, a symbol of opposition to the collective West t an intellectual and economic level. But even if BRICS grows stronger, I do not see any threats to the Union State," the expert added.
