MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Belarus' election was absolutely democratic, independent observer from Switzerland, Chairman of the public association Youth for Marriage and Family, Secretary General of the Russian-Swiss Friendship Society Wilhelm Wyss told BelTA.
“Belarus' election was absolutely democratic. Five candidates ran for election. Each has their own position and agenda. Everything was completely transparent. People in Belarus can decide on their own what they want for their country. Belarusians want to preserve the sense of confidence and reliability that the state gives them,” Wilhelm Wyss said.
The independent observer from Switzerland believes that it is important that Belarus has preserved the tradition of voting at polling stations. “Voting by mail is becoming more common in Switzerland. But when people come to polling stations, it makes the election process more visible and transparent. I also saw the joy with which people fulfill their patriotic duty by casting their ballot at polling stations,” he noted.
Wilhelm Wyss has visited a large number of polling stations in Minsk since 24 January. According to him, there are indeed many polling stations, they are located in various institutions. “We have visited polling stations located in educational institutions and enterprises, and each of them tried to distinguish themselves in some way. We were received in a very friendly and cordial way everywhere. I am really impressed by the organization of the process,” the observer emphasized.
“I also see that Belarus is developing rapidly, and people also acknowledge this, they want confidence in the future and further growth,” the observer said.
