Minsk, Naypyidaw explore avenues for cooperation

MINSK, 15 January (BelTA) – A video conference with representatives of the leadership of Myanmar’s capital Naypyidaw was held at the Minsk City Executive Committee under the chairmanship of Vladimir Kukharev. The Belarusian side outline possible areas for cooperation, BelTA has learned.

At the beginning of the meeting, Vladimir Kukharev recalled that following the recent visit of the Belarusian president to Myanmar, important agreements on interaction were reached between the two countries and capitals. “We are pleased to gain new partners and are confident that cooperation between our cities will bring significant benefits to our residents. This will be mutually beneficial and fruitful cooperation in all areas,” he noted.

He also reminded that on 28 November 2025, a memorandum of cooperation between Minsk and Naypyidaw in trade, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural interaction was signed.

During the meeting, the chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee spoke about Minsk’s achievements in industry, mentioning that the capital’s enterprises produce a wide range of products. “We could also discuss the development of innovative technologies. The Minsk City Technopark operates in our city, its enterprises cooperate with many countries, and we could find common ground in this area as well,” he added.

Vladimir Kukharev also mentioned Minsk’s healthcare and education systems. He emphasized that the cities could be of cultural and touristic interest to each other. Addressing Chairman of the Naypyidaw City Council Than Tun Oo, he noted that the Belarusian side would be happy to welcome guests from Naypyidaw at any time convenient for them. “We are looking forward to your visit, so that you get to know our country and the city of Minsk better,” he said.

In response, Than Tun Oo noted that all proposed initiatives were of interest to Naypyidaw and expressed gratitude for the presented opportunities. He also announced plans to create groups of responsible officials to enhance cooperation.

In conclusion, Deputy Chairperson of the Economic Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee Tatyana Selivonik noted that the Belarusian side initiated the meeting. “We needed to meet to outline new growth points in all areas and understand what to do next. We recognize the mutual interest, including in increasing mutual trade. All the events we proposed will be formalized in a roadmap for their further development,” she concluded.
