MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) - Minsk National Airport is negotiating with international air carriers about new flight destination, Director General of the airport Vyacheslav Khoroneko told the media, BelTA learned.
"Promising negotiations are underway with the Iranian carrier Mahan Air, which is based at Tehran airport. Just today, we hosted a business meeting with an official delegation from Iran at Minsk airport. We will share the results of these negotiations later," Vyacheslav Khoroneko said.
According to him, an airline from Vietnam has showed interest in organizing charter flights. "The best time to travel there is spring (February to April) and autumn (August to October). At the moment, we are engaged in talks over the organization of such flights with the airline and other interested parties," the general director said.
In winter, productive negotiations were held with Venezuelan partners. "Now we are working together to open cargo and passenger flights. Their airlines operate long-haul aircraft. Moreover, we are looking into launching a passenger flight from Minsk to Venezuela with a stopover in Cuba. Such a flight could increase the tourist potential by connecting Belarus with the countries of Latin America," Vyacheslav Khoroneko said.
On 1 July, Air China resumed regular flights from China to Minsk and back. So far, these flights will be operated once a week on Fridays.
In June, the Russian low-cost airline Pobeda launched flights to Minsk National Airport. "We hope that the airline will increase the frequency of flights to St. Petersburg and possibly expand the geography of flights through Minsk airport," the general director added.
