MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – The Icon of George the Victorious was presented to the Armed Forces by Metropolitan Veniamin of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, BelTA learned from the Defense Ministry.
Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said that the Icon will take its rightful place in the Church of the Minsk Suvorov Military School. “This is a unique institution that educates and trains young people in the spirit of true patriotism and loyalty to officer traditions, which are based on loyalty to the Fatherland and our people,” Viktor Khrenin said. He also thanked the Metropolitan for the Icon.
“Today, in the run-up to the Defenders of the Fatherland Day, we joyfully present this Icon as a blessing for our Armed Forces. The Holy Great Martyr George was an inspiring example of a defender and of steadfastness in his convictions. The past years have shown that victory is achieved not only on the battlefield. It is also important how steadfast a person is, how faithful they are to the traditions of previous generations and to the oath, and how much they love their Homeland. these spiritual and moral qualities were inherent in Holy Great Martyr George, and they are also needed by today's warriors, when very difficult events are happening around our borders,” Metropolitan Veniamin said.
For fruitful interaction with the Armed Forces, Viktor Khrenin awarded Metropolitan Veniamin a letter of appreciation from the Defense Ministry. “George the Victorious is our heavenly patron, a symbol of courage and victories. The Icon will provide spiritual support for all military personnel,” the minister noted.
