MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) underscores the effectiveness of the state policy, Chairwoman of the Belarusian Statistical Committee Belstat Inna Medvedeva said during a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Rasul Baghirov in Minsk on 13 March, BelTA learned from the press service of Belstat.

The parties discussed monitoring and evaluating the achievement of the SDGs in the Republic of Belarus and the activities under the United Nations and Republic of Belarus Framework Cooperation Program for Sustainable Development for 2026-2030.

Inna Medvedeva spoke about the annual assessment of Belarus’ progress towards achieving the SDGs. “According to the national calculations, 82.3% of the SDG indicators demonstrate significant progress and high results, while, according to the UN Sustainable Development Report, a slowdown in progress is observed at the global level and this figure is only 35%. Such a difference underscores the effectiveness of the state policy in Belarus,” Inna Medvedeva noted.

Rasul Baghirov stated that Belarus holds high positions in international rankings on achieving the SDGs. He confirmed the readiness of the UN system to provide comprehensive assistance in implementing measures to achieve the SDGs in the Republic of Belarus.

The UN permanent coordinator in Belarus emphasized that monitoring the progress in the framework program requires statistical support, in which Belstat plays a key role.

The parties expressed their belief that the national strategies, together with the new framework program, will provide a cohesive course for achieving sustainable development in the country.

The parties also outlined specific steps for implementing joint initiatives in 2026-2030, reaffirming their commitment to furthering the partnership aimed at maintaining high rates of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
