Main directions of Belarusian army’s development identified

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – The main directions of construction and development of Belarus’ Armed Forces in 2026-2030 were identified by Chief of the International Military Cooperation Department, Aide for International Military Cooperation to the Belarusian Defense Minister Valery Revenko at a briefing held on 19 February, BelTA has learned.

Representatives of the foreign corps of military diplomats from over 20 states, who are accredited with the Belarusian Defense Ministry, took part in the briefing. They were informed about topical matters of military policy, construction and development of Belarus’ Armed Forces. A presentation of the views of top officers of the Belarusian Defense Ministry on the development of the military and political situation in the world and in the European region was an important part of the event.

“The creation in Belarus of a well-equipped, prepared and trained army capable of performing its missions in any circumstances is not a desire for conflict, but a desire for peace, a choice in favor of stability, development and confidence in the future. The plan for the construction and development of the Armed Forces in 2021-2025 provided for the priority development of command and control systems, intelligence, radio-electronic warfare, air defense, military units of missile forces and artillery forces. The Armed Forces saw an increase in the number of combat personnel as well as an improvement in their readiness and ability to carry out their peacetime duties in any situation. The Armed Forces’ special operations forces began forming another airborne formation. The intensive expansion of capabilities of the Armed Forces’ unmanned aviation continues along with the development of its reconnaissance and strike components. The number of unmanned aerial vehicle units has been increased not only in special operations units, but also in every mechanized and airborne brigade where strike unmanned aerial vehicle units have been formed,” said Valery Revenko.

Apart from that, great importance is attached to the re-equipment and rearmament of the Armed Forces as well as the modernization and overhaul of weapons and military equipment. “Over the past academic year more than 75,000 units of various weapons, military and special equipment, and military-technical assets for a wide range of purposes were purchased and delivered to the troops: Su-30SM2 multirole aircraft, Mi-35M helicopters, Tor-M2 air defense missile systems, radar complexes, and more. The training of highly professional officers is an integral component of the successful fulfillment of tasks and of the development of the armed forces in any state. To this end the training of military specialists continues to be improved. Apart from that, capabilities of the Belarusian military education system are also available to foreign military personnel,” the defense minister’s aide noted.
The construction and development of the Armed Forces in 2026-2030 will proceed in a number of key areas. “The technical re-equipment of the troops with modern complexes and weapon systems will continue through reliance on our own scientific and industrial base. Measures will be taken to improve the level and quality of training of command and control bodies and troops, including for operations in hybrid warfare conditions. Every significant stage in the development of the army is driven by scientific achievements. In the context of the transition to a new technological paradigm the likelihood of victory increases for those who are quicker to convert breakthrough scientific ideas into practical solutions. Today it is science that determines areas of development of the Belarusian Armed Forces such as the efficient use of analytical systems and technologies leveraging artificial intelligence in the accomplishment of assigned tasks, the introduction of robotic systems into military units, and the provision of sustainable command and control of the troops in conditions of modern military conflicts and countering cyber threats,” Valery Revenko emphasized.
