MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) - Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova met with Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko on the sidelines of the BRICS events in St. Petersburg, BelTA has learned.
The meeting was also attended by Sergei Aleinik and Mikhail Rusy, members of the Belarusian parliamentary delegation, members of the Presidium of the Council of the Republic.
"We are grateful to the Russian Federation for supporting our country on the issue of joining the SCO. We would like to become a full member of the BRICS association. It is a great honor for us to be here today, to have the opportunity to speak, to convey our vision of the world order," Natalya Kochanova said.
The 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum brought together like-minded countries, the speaker noted. "This is an effective platform that is gaining influence. The BRICS group now comprises almost 46% of the world's population, 36% of global GDP. All BRICS members are concerned about one and the same problems, namely national security, sovereignty and independence, the preservation of good-neighborly and respectable relations. These are like-minded people," the chairperson of the Council of the Republic stressed.
