MINSK, 25 January (BelTA) – Belarusians are very responsible when it comes to choosing their country's future, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces of the Republic of South Africa Refilwe Maria Mtshweni-Tsipane, BelTA has learned.
“You are taking part in monitoring the election in the Republic of Belarus. An election is a very important event for every country. I would like to note that we have constructive, good relations with the Pan-African Parliament. Our cooperation received a serious boost after the Memorandum of Understanding was signed in 2024. This document granted Belarus an observer status in the Pan-African Parliament. Belarus is committed to constructive cooperation with African countries. Today, we are ready to interact in absolutely all areas: in trade and economy, politics, humanitarian matters, and between the parliaments,” noted Natalya Kochanova.
The speaker emphasized that Belarus' election is taking place amid a difficult geopolitical situation. “The special military operation is taking place near the southern border of Belarus, and NATO is amassing forces and conducting exercises on the western border. We strongly oppose interference in the internal affairs of sovereign and independent states. I know that our colleagues in African countries share this stance. Belarus is a peaceful country. We have never threatened anyone. We use all international platforms to call for resolving conflicts only by peaceful means. Today, we all understand that the unipolar world is on its last legs, and it is being replaced by a multipolar world, when states and people live by their own laws and traditions, each on their own land,” Natalya Kochanova said.
“The election in Belarus is being held in accordance with the effective legislation: the Constitution, the Electoral Code and other normative and legal acts. You will be able to see for yourself that we have a transparent system, the secrecy of the ballot. Our people choose the future of their country with great responsibility, make an informed decision. People flock to polling stations, cast their votes for peace and prosperity. We invited observers from various countries. Today, almost 500 international representatives and more than 44,000 national observers are already working in Belarus. We hope that you, our friends, will give a fair, objective, impartial assessment of this important political event,” added Natalia Kochanova.
