MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) – Belarus seeks to step up trade and economic cooperation with Syria, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Bassam Sabbagh in Minsk on 30 October, BelTA has learned.
"Inter-parliamentary cooperation is of great importance to us. We expect that our cooperation will be fruitful and your visit will give an impetus to it," Natalya Kochanova said.
According to the speaker, trade and economic cooperation between the countries can be more active. Natalya Kochanova assured that Belarus is willing to facilitate the development of relations in this area. "We have modern technologies. We are able to provide assistance in terms of supply of Belarusian goods. Certainly, Belarus is ready to assist in the post-war reconstruction," she stated.
"Humanitarian cooperation is also important. We are happy to host Syrian children on recuperation holidays in the Zubrenok summer camp. About 1,500 children from your country have already holidayed in this summer camp. The rehabilitation program of Syrian children is carried out under the auspices of our president. I know that Syrian children like Belarus, so we will continue this cooperation. As far as the issue of education is concerned, we will be very happy to see young people from Syria in our universities and vocational schools," Natalya Kochanova added.
