Head of Belarus President Administration inspects progress on storm recovery in Zelva District

ZELVA DISTRICT, 2 August (BelTA) - Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi inspected the progress on storm recovery in Zelva District, BelTA has learned.

Dmitry Krutoi visited the village of Berezhki, which was hit by the storm in mid-July, and also went to see the school in the village of Golynka. When asked about the local response to the storm and the recovery efforts in Zelva District, Dmitry Krutoi noted: "Today we are examining the efficiency of the response by the Zelva District Executive Committee and the village councils. We must give credit, the scale here is smaller than in Gomel Oblast and Mogilev Oblast, but still, the work of the system as a whole is important. Zelva District has done everything properly. In fact, immediately at the level of the chairman of the district executive committee an instruction was given to relevant specialists to do a house-to-house in the most affected communities. A list of about 100 most affected houses and outbuildings was compiled.

"I was interested in how quickly resources were allocated from the emergency stocks (roofing slate, boards, nails). They were allocated promptly; everything was available, in good supply. Now we are looking whether the system requires certain improvements in order to be ready for, God forbid, larger emergencies. In general, everything was in good supply. People were satisfied, they saw that the authorities got down to work from the first minutes," Dmitry Krutoi said.

"Communication was promptly established. All services, even non-core ones like the traffic police, started clearing the most affected areas from downed trees," Dmitry Krutoi said.

He added: "To date, special attention in Zelva District goes to social facilities. By the time the new school year starts, all schools must be put in order. Builders are working even ahead of schedule at the sites we have visited today. Everything is in good supply.  They are doing repairs on the roof and ceilings and also inside the rooms that have been flooded. Following the president instruction, we have agreed with the school principals to undertake some additional types of work. For example in this school we will make over the catering facility, make a gallery and, possibly, a museum, and spruce the stadium up. This will be a more comprehensive improvement. We have the resources for it. We will be doing all the necessary procedures such as endorsement, coordination, examination of all documents simultaneously. We will facilitate the process as much as possible. I think the students and their parents will appreciate the work done.

Dmitry Krutoi was satisfied with the approach applied in Zelva District to the storm relief and recovery efforts. "The approach is absolutely economic. I like the commitments of all our services, not only builders, who realize the responsibility and work ahead of schedule, but also the local organizations who are ready to provide any sponsorship (money and building materials) in order to clean things up as soon as possible. This once again shows the cohesion and mutual support", the head of the President Administration noted.
