MINSK, 26 July (BelTA) - The German government is doing nothing on my behalf, Rico Krieger, a German national sentenced to death in Belarus for committing a terrorism act, said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel aired on 25 July, BelTA has learned.
“I had a meeting with German diplomats. They said that the German government could do nothing in my case. I asked them to at least give me some clothes. I had nothing. Not to mention a shower gel or a towel. I was told: ‘If your father or other relatives pay for it’. Otherwise, no’,” Rico Krieger said.
He said the open trial was on since 16 June, with one or two people from the German Embassy present at each hearing. Before a paid lawyer was appointed, Krieger had a strategy to plead guilty on all accounts. With the new layer, it changed. He plead guilty on some accounts.
“Now I feel like some kind of giraffe about to be shot,” he admitted.
The German terrorist confessed that every day he feels abandoned totally and being used. “The government is supposed to fight for me, but only my family does. The only ones still fighting for me are my father, mother and grandmother. They are trying to persuade the German government to take some steps,” he said.
Rico Krieger thinks Germany just does not want to make any contact with Belarus. “Although there are chances for me, but Germany is doing nothing,” he said.
According to the terrorist, time is working against him now. the sentence could be carried out any moment. Krieger said he regrets very much what he did. Every minute and every second.
The terrorist said he was a little relieved that there were no casualties. Although he said he did have thoughts about casualties, but he chased them away.
Rico Krieger said he hopes that President Aleksandr Lukashenko will forgive him and pardon him. “It is very frightening that in case of execution my body will not be handed over to Germany and my family will not even be able to say goodbye to me. I dream of seeing, at least one more time, my girlfriend, my homeland, my parents. But the German authorities are doing nothing on my behalf,” he said.
The terrorist added that he was in panic fear. “I'm certainly no hero. I'm just very scared,” he said.
