MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) - Delegations of the Internal Affairs Ministries of Belarus and Russia, headed by their ministers, arrived in Mogilev for a meeting of the joint collegium of the Interior Ministries of the Union State, BelTA learned from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The parties are set to discuss the state and prospects of cooperation between the internal affairs bodies of the two countries in the field of combating crimes committed with the use of information and communication technologies, to look into the ways of improving cooperation in the field of information exchange and to approve the collegium's work plan for 2026.
Ivan Kubrakov noted that such high-level meetings have become a good tradition and contribute to the development of new forms and methods of work, making the partnership more effective. "Countering extremism and terrorism has become the frontburner issue now. As a result of common efforts, four terrorist attacks against officials and critical infrastructure facilities of Belarus and Russia were prevented in 2023-2024. In the course of analyzing information on cryptocurrency transactions, the drug control units of the two countries obtained information on 35 persons involved in drug trafficking in Belarus who were eventually brought to criminal responsibility. During the same period, Russian law enforcers detained seven droppers and seized more than 50 kilograms of psychotropics, some of which were intended for transportation to Belarus," he added.
"In a coordinated effort, the police surveilled 10 international controlled deliveries of banned substances, with organizers and active participants of drug trafficking detained in seven cases. Last year 964 individuals wanted by the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry for criminal offenses were detained in Russia. As for our part, we detained 185 offenders. I thank our colleagues for efficiency and coordinated actions," the minister said.
Ivan Kubrakov also emphasized that a gathering of veteran organization leaders was held for the first time and this meeting format proved effective.
Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev noted that the operational situation in the Union State remains under control, with partnership strengthening. "Overall, in 2024 and the first quarter of 2025, the number of unlawful acts against Russians in Belarus decreased by 10%. In Russia, the number of crimes involving Belarusian victims dropped by nearly 2% over the same period. The cooperation between our ministries covers almost all areas of operational and official activities. And to a large extent, thanks to a universal format like the Joint Collegium, we have managed to establish the necessary legal framework and build the most optimal mechanisms for interaction," he stressed.
