MINSK, 8 December (BelTA) - The flow of Belarusian tourists to Thailand is increasing, Ivan Chura, the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Thailand in the Republic of Belarus, told journalists at an event to launch Belavia's flight program to Pattaya and Phuket in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
According to Ivan Chura, this year 29,000 Belarusians have already visited Thai resorts despite the lack of direct flights. “According to current statistics, Thailand is one of the most visited countries in Southeast Asia by Belarusians. With the launch of the direct air service, we expect an increase of at least 30-40%,” Ivan Chura said.
Belavia's first flight to Pattaya will depart on 8 January and to Phuket on 11 January. The honorary consul believes both destinations will be in high demand. "Pattaya and Phuket are two unique resorts. Families typically choose Phuket because of its splendid beaches and the opportunity to travel around the island. Those seeking a more active vacation with an excursion program (Bangkok is nearby) will fly to U-Tapao (Pattaya). Both resorts are absolutely essential for our tourists, and everyone will find a place to their liking,” Ivan Chura said.
The Honorary Consul recalled that Thailand has introduced e-visas. There is also the option to obtain a visa upon arrival, which is very convenient for tourists. An intergovernmental agreement to introduce a visa-free regime is in the works. This will allow tourists to travel more and visit Thailand more frequently.
Flights to Phuket will be launched on 11 January. This tropical paradise has long held a reputation as one of Thailand's most alluring resorts. Its pristine white beaches, vibrant markets, and rich cultural tapestry create a truly unique atmosphere.
Tickets are available as part of tour packages: details about the flights, prices and other current information can be obtained from tour operators.
Flights to U-Tapao and Phuket will be operated once every 10/11 days using new Airbus A330 aircraft. The approximate flight time is 10 hours for the outbound journey and about 11 hours for the return one.

Thailand is known for its flourishing tourism industry. Last year, the country saw growth in tourist arrivals not only from the Belarusian market but worldwide.
The launch of direct flights from Minsk to Thailand is a significant event for both countries, Kanchana Sing-udom, the Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Moscow Office, said at the launch event. The number of Belarusians at resorts is steadily increasing: the flow has grown by 67% compared to the same period last year. “This shows that interest is rising. And direct air service will further facilitate travel to our region,” Kanchana Sing-udom said.
As BelTA has reported, flights from Minsk to Pattaya (U-Tapao Airport) will commence on 8 January. Pattaya is not only known for its beaches but also for its vibrant nightlife. Thanks to its convenient location, it's also an easy gateway to Bangkok (the journey to the capital takes just a couple of hours).
