"On Point"
MINSK, 16 October (BelTA) - The USA cannot send Tomahawk missiles to Kiev without first training Ukrainian specialists to use this type of weapon, Doctor of Political Sciences, expert on national security and the Middle East Simon Tsipis said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
“This is rarely mentioned in the news, but people must understand: you need to know how to use any type of weapon. Let me give a concrete example. To train Israeli pilots to use the latest F-35 fighter jet, they were sent to a special U.S. Air Force academy for two years. The fighters had not even been delivered to Israel yet, but the pilots were already being trained to operate them,” said Simon Tsipis. “HIMARS, Tomahawk, Patriot... You can't just hand this equipment over – you also need the skills to use it. Every type of weapon has its own specifics.”
Thus, the expert believes, the transfer of Tomahawks to Kiev would also mean sending U.S. military personnel to Ukraine. There is another scenario, in which Ukrainian military personnel have already been sent to the U.S. for training. “It's not enough to just deliver the missiles, deploy them in a field, and push buttons to fire. Every state, every corporation has its own technical specifications for any weapon system,” he emphasized.
According to Simon Tsipis, it follows that the USA will either send its specialists to Ukraine or is already training specialists from Ukraine to operate these missiles. The second option would mean that the shipment of Tomahawks to Ukraine was planned long ago. “One needs to understand: when you hear about the delivery of certain types of weapons, it means that behind the scenes, work has long been underway on their maintenance and use,” the expert stated.
