Belarus to ship large batch of machinery to Togo, Ghana for farm mechanization

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) - Belarus will supply a large shipment of agricultural machinery to Togo and Ghana to aid in farm mechanization, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov told the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“We are talking about the delivery of our machinery to both countries during 2026 with the aim of mechanizing their agriculture. For Togo, it’s about 4,500 units: tractors, attachments, seeders, and plows. For Ghana, it is approximately 3,000 units. These are significant pilot projects. Beyond the machinery, the plan includes the establishment of service centers for its upkeep and the initiation of training programs for local specialists,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said.

He emphasized that Belarus is entering the African market as a true partner and friend. “First, knockdown kits, then service centers, followed by training local personnel, and then the establishment of assembly production. This logic is supported by African countries. They are genuinely very happy with this kind of cooperation. It’s not just simple trade – shipped and forgotten. It's about the transfer of expertise, technologies, and the training of specialists. This is what they need today to advance their technological base. This is what is important to them,” the minister said.

Belarus already has a track record with this approach. It was on this very basis that cooperation with Zimbabwe was built. Today, the partnership with Zimbabwe serves as a showcase for what Belarus can offer the African continent.

“When leaders of African countries, from Mozambique to West African states, paid visits to Zimbabwe, we made sure they had the opportunity to see what these service centers look like and what equipment is available,” Maxim Ryzhenkov noted.

The Ghanaian president also uses a Belarusian tractor on his farm. The equipment has proven its worth, as the head of state said.

Belarus also invites African partners to specialist exhibitions, and this too yields results. For example, when Ghana's minister of agriculture was in Belarus and saw the full range of equipment and the technological capabilities of Belarusian enterprises, he naturally supported a joint project.

The minister drew attention to the advantages that African states gain from cooperation with Belarus: “Our experience working with many countries around the world shows that dealing with large empires is very difficult. When it’s a large state, many issues certainly become very hard to resolve. First, there are bureaucratic hurdles when it comes to major projects. Second, you become dependent on a country that naturally promotes its own interests with all the imperial ambition.”
Belarus has all the necessary competencies. Some of these were inherited from the Soviet era, while others have been developed during the years of independence. All the necessary machinery and related equipment are produced at Belarusian enterprises. Consequently, they have full access to all technical documentation and technologies.

“Tomorrow, because of political ambitions, as we see in the USA and the European Union, the software isn’t going to suddenly fail just because of some sanctions, nor will Western spare parts stop being delivered at some point. We will always build, at our own modest level, a mutually beneficial cooperation that ensures agreements are fully honored. And the guarantee that they will be honored lies in the warm, personal, and sincere relations between the leaders of our countries,” Maxim Ryzhenkov stated.

The diplomat recalled that a visit by the Ghanaian president to Belarus is planned for June 2026 According to the minister, this will allow both parties to advance even further in implementing major projects. Minsk also expects to host the leadership of Togo on a visit.
