MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – Minsk has proven its convenience and safety as a negotiation platform, national security expert Aleksandr Tishchenko said in a new episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA's YouTube channel.
“The president says we are not driven by any particular dream of organizing negotiations. Nevertheless, it must be acknowledged that the Minsk platform has demonstrated its efficiency, convenience, safety, and impartiality toward any party participating in the talks,” Aleksandr Tishchenko said.
The expert noted that ten years ago, Minsk succeeded in reaching agreements to resolve the conflict in eastern Ukraine. However, he added, later European leaders who took part in the Minsk negotiations admitted they had tried to buy time for Kiev. Aleksandr Tishchenko stressed that now it is the European Union that is trying to prevent the achievement of any peace agreement on Ukraine.
He also drew attention to the regular changes of negotiation venues proposed by the West or Kiev. “There is a certain psychology behind this as well. It is also a negotiation tactic. If the matter were truly about reaching an agreement, I believe the Minsk platform would have been chosen. But we are not insisting on this option,” the expert concluded.
