MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – Belarus will soon appreciate all the advantages of distance learning, BelTA learned from Vadzim Tsitou, Chief Executive Officer and First Prorector of the British business school Magna Carta College Oxford, on 27 November.
“Distance learning is more popular abroad, however, Belarus will appreciate all the advantages of this form of education rather soon. Not only students but young specialists are going to take part in distance learning programs and get education,” said Vadzim Tsitou.
“Certainly, we have inherited a heavy burden in the form of the attitude of parents and students to Soviet-period part-time education. However, modern distance education is nothing like the old way of distance learning,” stressed the expert. In his words, in the last five years state-of-the-art technologies have become part of the education system and allow virtually achieving the effect of the student's presence in the classroom. Apart from that, this form of distance learning is more effective. “Imagine having 100 students in the classroom. Will the professor be able to test whether every student has learned the material or not? The computer system will test everyone because there are no limitations. The system will also offer tips for better learning,” said Vadzim Tsitou.
Speaking about peculiarities of distance education, Vadzim Tsitou remarked that in its essence distance learning is personalized. “Distance learning helps every student learn and study the material. Students are granted opportunities for growth. Students are supported and helped but students have to want to learn and have to put effort into learning,” said the expert. Distance learning has reached a level of truly quality instruments used to support students. In particular, materials with a high degree of interactivity and inbuilt testing environments are available. Apart from that, distance learning offers a flexible and comfortable learning process, with time, psychological, and financial costs minimized.
Belarusians also have the ability to get quality British business education. Magna Carta College Oxford is one of the world's few business schools to allow all university students as well as university-degree specialists to get British higher professional education using distance learning. Moreover, level-four ABE programs can be used even by school students, who know English well. While in secondary school they can pass one level, which is about equal to one year of studying in an English higher educational establishment. University students can apply for admission at any time. By the time they graduate from a Belarusian university or from a university of any other CIS state they will have received level-six education, which is equal to bachelor's degree or a second higher professional education degree in the English education system. Specialists with a university degree are invited to get British higher academic education or post-graduate professional education and then post-graduate academic education if necessary. Those with master's degrees can apply for education courses that will grant them doctor's degrees. The relevant education program takes three years to complete and can use distance learning, too.
An international education conference European Quality Education is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 27-28 November. The conference has been organized by the British business school Magna Carta College Oxford and the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics. Microsoft Corporation is the general partner of the event. The conference has been organized with assistance of the Belarusian Education Ministry, the Embassy of Belarus in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the UK Embassy in Belarus.
