MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) - A snap combat readiness inspection of the Armed Forces is, first of all, a key element of strategic deterrence, and it is being watched extremely closely in the West, Andrei Bogodel, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Education and Science – Head of the Education and Methodology Department of the Faculty of the General Staff of the Armed Forces at the Military Academy of Belarus, said in the latest episode of the V Teme [On Point] project on BelTA’s YouTube channel.
The expert noted that combat readiness inspections of the Belarusian Armed Forces will continue. “I want to say that these inspections will continue, and they will continue now throughout the winter and then into the spring. Specifically, how long they will continue into spring is still unknown. Will we learn the results or not?” the expert poses the question and answers: “We must understand - the package [of orders] was secret, and we have all read it. Therefore, both the execution of the assigned task and the specific measures carried out will also be classified.”
He emphasized that what has been shown to the wider audience is all the information available for open access. “Nevertheless, everyone saw that the combat task was completed, and that, in my opinion, is the most important thing,” Andrei Bogodel said.
The expert pointed out that the snap combat readiness inspection was not random, given the complex situation developing around the country. “Who is there on the western borders, and what is happening in the south? If you look closely, on the western borders, specifically, for example, in the area of Germany, the alliance’s response forces of the North Atlantic Alliance, NATO, are beginning deployment. Moreover, the deployment is starting based on the operational formation, the Joint Force Command in Brunssum. And this command in Brunssum is directly responsible precisely for the Leningrad, Kaliningrad, and Belarusian directions. Furthermore, these 10,000 troops beginning deployment there now is supposedly logistical exercises, called Steadfast Dart 2026. Accordingly, after these exercises, which end in March (note - in the spring), the next stage of exercises, which will be called Quadriga will begin. During these exercises, nothing other than a ‘military Schengen’ will be practiced, meaning the transfer of troops and forces precisely to the area of Lithuania and Poland,” Andrei Bogodel explained.
He stressed that Belarus’ response to such actions is merely a strategy of deterrence. “This indicates that this kind of activity we are conducting is not just an inspection, but first and foremost one of the important elements of strategic deterrence. That is, we are capable of counteracting any action. We see the opposite side. We react and correspondingly demonstrate our combat readiness, that we are ready to defend our homeland. They see this perfectly well. Just as we are watching them, they are observing us. Moreover, they are examining everything, in the literal sense of the word, under a microscope,” the expert said.
