MINSK, 29 December (BelTA) – Belarus' National Library played host to an event to present the edition “The Republic of Belarus: 25 years of creation and accomplishments”, BelTA learned from the organizers of the launch event.
“This is the biggest, most wide-ranging and comprehensive work in the recent history of the Belarusian state. The book saw the light of day earlier this year in the Belorusskaya Nauka publishing house. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) was the main organization to prepare and publish the edition,” the library noted.
Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov hailed the work undertaken by the authors and their contribution to the analysis of the establishment of the sovereign Belarus. “This massive research involved more than 400 authors, including specialists of the National Library. The team aimed to create a popular scientific edition that will cater to readers of all ages,” Vladimir Gusakov stressed.
The authors narrate the history of the country in seven illustrated books. Every book details the most important results of the efforts to strengthen the national statehood: government bodies, citizens' rights and freedoms, the economic model, the development of the industry, healthcare and education, physical education and sport, architecture and urban development, language and literature, arts.
“The National Academy of Sciences, our long-term partner, has created a true masterpiece of book publishing. This is a unique and rich illustrated encyclopedia that upholds the fine scientific traditions and celebrates the great work of the NASB. One way or another, all this has something to do with every citizen of our country,” Director General of the National Library Roman Motulsky said.
The organizers of the presentation also stressed that the progress of the Belarusian nation and accomplishments of the independent Belarus should be studied carefully. “Scientific analysis and its understanding help us draw lessons, find a solid foundation for the national statehood, and make sure that we have chosen the right path,” the library added.
The edition is available in the Book Museum of the National Library.
