Eismont: Requests to interview Lukashenko come from across the globe

MINSK, 8 August (BelTA) - Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko receives interview requests from journalists across the globe, Press Secretary of the Belarusian President Natalya Eismont said on the air of Belarus 1 TV channel on 8 August. BelTA learned.

Natalya Eismont noted that journalists worldwide remain keenly interested in interviewing the Belarusian leader. "Reporters recognize our president’s accessibility and, in the best sense, take advantage of it. We consistently maintain this open approach, engaging with media across the spectrum. Currently, we are fielding numerous requests from a diverse range of countries," she explained.

The press secretary of the Belarusian leader noted that substantial proposals primarily come from Russian journalists. “Let me give you one example: Vladimir Solovyov recently proposed a particularly interesting project to our president. The president has agreed to discuss it with him, and we will certainly make time for this. It is going to be a truly serious project," Natalya Eismont revealed.
The story behind the interview with TIME’s Simon Shuster was somewhat unique, she added: "A whole wave of requests came in following one of the rounds of Belarusian-U.S. negotiations. “That very meeting at the Palace of Independence - the one broadcast publicly and seen by everyone [the Belarusian president's talks with U.S. Special Envoy Keith Kellogg] triggered this interest. Journalists sensed a potential thaw in Belarus-U.S. relations and sought firsthand insights," she explained.

Within days of the meeting, a surge of requests came from major U.S. media outlets, including top-tier news agencies and television networks. Among them was TIME Magazine’s formal inquiry.
“TIME, by the way, was among the first to reach out,” Natalya Eismont noted. "Their request came to the president’s press service and me personally through our overseas representatives, my colleagues. We reviewed all requests, including TIME’s, and reported them to the president. Since they were first, we decided to prioritize them. The president listened to the initial rationale and gave his preliminary approval,” she said.
