Eismont: Belarusian women are under protection of president

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) - The whole world knows that a Belarusian woman is under the protection of the president, president’s press secretary Natalya Eismont said during a ceremony to honor the winners of the 18th national contest Woman of the Year 2025, BelTA has learned.
Natalya Eismont noted that the Woman of the Year contest and the Year of the Belarusian Women are a perfect combination. “I was thinking what else could be said besides the kind words that you all deserve?” she said addressing the women. “You all know that a huge number of people visit our Palace of Independence. We try to convey to everyone, that here in the Palace of Independence, the heart of the country’s political life, our president is doing everything so that we can gather like this, in the middle of a work week, in a beautiful and festive setting, and choose the Woman of the Year. Because it is truly valuable in the current times to have the opportunity to gather for an hour and share a smile.”

“I cannot fail to mention the heights to which the president has raised Belarusian women on a global scale. We all saw the tremendous response to the announcement on New Year's Eve [the declaration of 2026 as the Year of the Belarusian Woman). It was unexpected, it was so emotional. I think the whole world was talking about it back then. When last week the president suggested that if anyone mistreats a Belarusian woman, they should find an opportunity and reach out to him on TikTok? I am sure everyone can imagine the response we received to this message on our presidential and pro-presidential social media accounts and messengers. Let me share an inside scoop: about 80% of everyone who wrote to us were not Belarusian women. Just imagine! Now, without exaggeration, the whole world knows that the Year of the Belarusian Women has been declared in our country and that the Belarusian women re under protection – that’s precisely the conclusion we drew for ourselves. Our women, most likely, don’t want to overload the president. They, absolutely certainly, are already solving their problems, for the most part on their own. But I am absolutely convinced that they all know exactly under what and under whose protection they are,” Natalya Eismont emphasized.

Natalya Eismont recalled that declaring the Year of the Belarusian Women was the president's personal idea and decision. “Who else in our country could have thought up and proposed something like that? This is recognition of the role of the Belarusian woman in our society, of her status. But it is also what the president expects from Belarusian women. He expects our support in daily matters and in solving the problems we can and should handle at our levels. Therefore, the Year of the Belarusian Women is not only an honor, but also a huge responsibility. This responsibility also lies with the Belarusian Women's Union,” she said.Photos by Tatiana Matusevich/BelTa
