MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – The CIS observation mission has published an interim report where it shared views on the preparations for the presidential election in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

“At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the CIS observation mission has been monitoring the preparations for the presidential election in the Republic of Belarus scheduled for 26 January 2025 since 18 December 2024. The mission performs its duties freely and independently, in line with the legislation of the Republic of Belarus and CIS documents, without interfering in the electoral process or the internal affairs of the state,” the report reads.

By 20 January, 290 observers of the mission have been accredited. These are observers from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, the Belarus-Russia Union State Parliamentary Assembly, the Permanent Committee of the Union State, and the CIS Executive Committee. There are forty long-term observers. Their activities are coordinated by the mission headquarters in Minsk.

Members of the mission headquarters met with senior officials of the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Prosecutor General's Office to take stock of the course of the election campaign. Long-term observers of the mission study the operation of territorial and precinct election commissions in all regions of Belarus and Minsk.

“The election is held in keeping with the Constitution, the Electoral Code, other legislative acts of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the Central Election Commission resolutions explaining individual procedures and processes. Experts from the mission headquarters and the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of CIS IPA Member Nations are completing their analysis of Belarus' electoral legislation. Their findings will be put together in the final document to be released after the voting day. The mission acknowledges the consistent and well-planned work of the Central Election Commission during the electoral period. In accordance with the Electoral Code, the presidential election campaign began 25 days before the voting day - on 1 January 2025  - and will last until 25 January. Candidates and their proxies use all legal tools to carry out their campaigns: meetings with voters, pickets, media appearances, distribution of printed campaign materials. The candidates make an active use of various Internet resources and social media to reach out to voters,” the report reads.

According to the mission, the campaign is proceeding in a calm and organized manner, in strict accordance with the electoral legislation.

“Candidates have equal conditions for campaigning, including an equal right to make media appearances. The mission will present its findings on the preparation and conduct of Belarus' presidential election in its final report,” the report reads.
