MINSK, 11 January (BelTA) – A total of 5,500 polling stations were set up for the parliamentary and local elections in Belarus, Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission (CEC) Igor Karpenko told the media in Minsk on 11 January, BelTA has learned.

The process of setting up polling stations was fully completed on 10 January. "A total of about 5,500 polling stations were set up. The precinct election commissions will be formed no later than 25 January. The process of nominating candidates to the Parliament is actively underway. The country will elect 12,624 deputies, 110 of them - to the House of Representatives, the rest -to local councils of deputies," Igor Karpenko said.

According to the CEC chairman, candidates can be nominated by collecting signatures, by labor collectives or political parties. "The number of those who have submitted documents is changing. There is still time to get nominated and submit the documents to the respective district election commission until 15 January. The candidates’ registration process will be running from 16 January to 30 January. The political campaign will be going from 31 January till 24 February. That should be the most interesting part for voters," Igor Karpenko said.
