MINSK, 1 September (BelTA) – Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Shved and Chairman of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission Michael Reza had a working meeting in Minsk. During the meeting they signed a memorandum of understanding between the two agencies, representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Belarus told BelTA.
Andrei Shved said in his welcome address: “Our states have built constructive relations in many sectors of cooperation. This year the presidents of Belarus and Zimbabwe have signed a roadmap on strategic cooperation and partnership for 2026-2030. The realization of the already reached agreements and the exploration of new avenues of cooperation will help our countries get closer to each other and build up trade turnover volumes. Today it is necessary to take all the possible measures to ensure legality in the operation of organizations of Belarus and Zimbabwe.”
The foreign colleagues drew attention to the importance of stepping up the counteraction of corruption in various sectors of economy, including via stronger international cooperation.
The memorandum the parties have signed provides for stepping up cooperation of the parties to the memorandum within their competence in the sphere of the fight against corruption, including the counteraction of the legalization of revenues from corrupt activities, search and retrieval of criminal assets, the exchange of legislative information and other kinds of legal information, research and methodological recommendations of mutual interest. Apart from that, the document provides for sending information for preventing and early detection of corruption, for preventing prerequisites for corruption, for arranging consultations on the execution of applications for legal aid in criminal cases into corruption within the authority of the parties while observing national legislation and international commitments of their states.
