Belarusian helicopters helping fight major forest fire near Turkish Marmaris

MINSK, 2 August (BelTA) – Aerial units of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry continue fighting a major fire near the Turkish city of Marmaris, the Emergencies Ministry press service told BelTA.

According to the source, two Belarusian Mi-8 helicopters carried out eight flights on 1 August and spent 12 hours and 29 minutes in the air. They dropped water 90 times. They delivered 12 Turkish firefighters to firefighting areas.

The Belarusian helicopters are working as part of an international team that includes other helicopters and aircraft. The aerial units and ground forces are busy fighting a strong forest fire to protect the city. After maintenance provided by Belarusian technicians at night the helicopters once again deploy to fight the fire.

Last week the Belarusian helicopters carried out 24 flights and spent 38 hours and 48 minutes in the air. They dropped water 346 times. Apart from that, they delivered 18 Turkish firefighters to firefighting areas.
