MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) - The Belarusian Embassy in Ankara organized a children’s celebration and a workshop on making traditional Belarusian motanka dolls for compatriots to mark the Old New Year, BelTA learned from the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Türkiye.
Young Belarusians and their mothers actively participated in games, learned how to make the dolls, and socialized over tea. The embassy gathered nearly 100 guests, whom Anatoly Glaz, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Türkiye, congratulated on the New Year. He emphasized the importance of love for children, family, and the Fatherland, as well as the unbreakable bond with one’s homeland.
The embassy staff organized the workshop and celebration for their compatriots. All guests went home with gifts of Belarusian sweets.
The history of the Belarusian motanka doll as a folk tradition dates back to ancient times when women created such dolls to protect their families and homes. As our ancestors believed, the motanka doll fulfills wishes and safeguards its owners and their home, serving as a symbol of health, happiness, and wellbeing.
Diplomatic relations between Belarus and Türkiye were established on 25 March 1992. The Turkish embassy opened in Minsk in 1992, and the embassy of the Republic of Belarus opened in Ankara in 1997.
