Belarusian Belavia’s first charter flight lands in Oman

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian national air carrier Belavia made the first flight from Minsk to Salalah, a popular resort in Oman which is called “the Caribbean of the East”. The start of the charter flight program is a big step in the development of bilateral relations, Ambassador of Belarus to Egypt and concurrently to Oman Sergei Terentyev told reporters, BelTA learned.

“This is a big step in the development of bilateral relations,” Ambassador Sergei Terentyev noted.  “Belarusians will learn more about Oman, Omanis - about Belarus. Oman is known for wonderful nature, wonderful people, and culture. Very tasty cuisine. I think you will like local coffee and souvenirs.

Why is Oman interesting for Belarus? The Ambassador noted that it is one of the most ancient countries in the region, with history going back more than a thousand years. The city of Salalah is a coastal city, laying on the Indian Ocean. Many people perceive vacation here as an affordable alternative to the Maldives or the Seychelles.

The charter flight program was launched in furtherance of the agreements reached by the heads of the two states during the talks in December 2024, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

The Belavia press service noted that festive events have been organized at the airports of both countries to mark the launch of the new route. In Minsk travelers enjoyed a photo zone and got presents. The inaugural flight will be celebrated in Oman with a water cannon salute, according to a good aviation tradition

Belavia Director General Igor Cherginets pointed out that the direct air service between Minsk and Salalah will have a favorable effect on the tourist flows of the two countries. Until recently, Belarusians could only get to Oman with a connection in third countries. “The launch of the new flight will significantly simplify logistics. We see that there is demand for the destination, with the capacity of the first flight at almost 100%,” he said.

Oman is a new destination for Belarusians. It is ideal for holidays both in summer and winter. The weather in the region is warm and dry in winter and pleasant and comfortable in summer. Rains and refreshing winds fill Salalah with bright green colors of gardens. Since ancient times Oman is famous for strong black coffee, which is often served with cardamom or a drop of rose water.

Citizens of Belarus do not need a visa if the stay in the country does not exceed 14 days.

Belavia plans to operate the flight three times a month in collaboration with the tour operator as part of the charter program.
