Belarusian Begoml to host international seminar on partisan movement

VITEBSK, 20 May (BelTA) – An international military history seminar on the organization of the partisan movement in Belarus during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 will take place in the town of Begoml, Dokshitsy District, Vitebsk Oblast on 21-22 May, representatives of the Dokshitsy District administration told BelTA. The seminar will be dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from the Nazi invaders.

The idea to organize the seminar originated from Doctor of Historical Sciences Nikolai Pechen, a graduate of the Begoml secondary school. He decided to look up prominent natives of Dokshitsy District, who live in Belarus and Russia, invite them to the land where they grew up, and arrange a seminar in a land known for its partisan movement during the Great Patriotic War. Scientists, experts, and retired military from Belarus, Russia, and Lithuania will take part in the seminar.

Participants of the seminar are expected to discuss the significance of the Operation Bagration the Soviet army launched to liberate Belarus and the contribution of the 3rd Belarusian Front of the Soviet army to the liberation of Begoml and the surrounding area. Matters of organization of the partisan movement during the war will be discussed. Eyewitness will share their childhood impressions of the war. Apart from that, a son and a daughter of the commanding officer of the partisan unit Zheleznyak, Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Titkov will talk about their father's fate.

As part of the seminar flowers will be laid at a mass grave. Participants of the seminar will visit the memorial complex Shunevka and will open a public garden in honor of the 75th anniversary of Belarus' liberation. On the second day of the seminar participants of the event will make speeches in educational institutions and in front of labor collectives in Dokshitsy District companies.

The seminar has been organized by the Dokshitsy District Executive Committee and the Dokshitsy District Council of Deputies, the military science society under the aegis of the M.V. Frunze Central House of the Russian Army, the military science society under the Central House of Officers of the Armed Forces of Belarus, and the State Museum of Military History of Belarus.
