Belarusian army's communications troops getting ready for Union Shield 2019 exercise

MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – A tactical exercise for communications units of the Belarusian army is taking place in Belarus on 8-12 July, representatives of the Defense Ministry told BelTA.

The exercise is overseen by Chief of Communications of the Armed Forces, Chief of the Communications Office of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Oleg Mishchenko. Getting ready for the Belarusian-Russian army exercise Union Shield 2019 is one of the goals of the communications exercise.

The exercise represents the final step in preparing the communications units of the Belarusian army for the Union Shield 2019 exercise. In the course of the tactical exercise only new and upgraded hardware will be deployed to establish a communications system. Close attention will be paid to deploying components of the joint field communications system of the regional military group. Russian officers representing the communications office of the Western Military District are expected to participate in the exercise.

Over 1,500 people and over 350 units of communications equipment and vehicles will be involved in the exercise. The units will have to march for up to 250km to reach deployment areas.
