Belarus wins bronze at International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics

MINSK, 26 November (BelTA) – The eleventh grade student of the Lyceum of Belarusian State University (BSU) Artemy Syrokvash has won a bronze medal at the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA). The competition was held in Bogotá, Colombia, on 14-21 November in an online format, BelTA learned from the press service of Belarusian State University.

In addition to the BSU Lyceum student, four more students represented our country at the Olympiad. Arseny Komarov, a graduate of Grodno Lyceum №1, was also awarded a bronze medal.

The Olympiad consisted of five parts: theoretical examination, data analysis examination, solar examination, planetarium examination and team competition.

Taking part in the Olympiad were 240 contestants from 48 countries.

The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics is an annual event for highly performing high school students from all around the world. It debuted in Thailand in 2007.
