MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) - The tenth meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Education Ministers will be held in Belarus in June, Belarusian Education Minister Andrei Ivanets said at the ministry’s final board session, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus will become a venue for interstate cooperation in education in 2026. The tenth meeting of the SCO Education Ministers will take place in June. In the autumn, Minsk will also host the 9th Congress of Teachers and Education Workers from the CIS member states,” Andrei Ivanets said.
Currently, more than 37,000 international students are studying at the country’s educational institutions. “Education services exports reached a record $199 million last year; over the five-year period, we have essentially doubled this indicator. It is important to note that our universities have ensured a significant increase in programs implemented jointly with our colleagues from Russia, China, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. In fact, more than 50% of our export volume has been achieved through the implementation of English-language programs. We need to continue this work,” the minister emphasized.
According to him, to further develop the achieved level of international cooperation in 2026, it is necessary to ensure the diversification of Belarusian education exports and its structure. “Today we see that essentially every third international student is from China. We need to expand the ‘export basket’ of services that are in demand (English-language programs, master’s programs for foreign nationals). It is also crucial to carry out comprehensive work with international students - from the selection stage to graduation and the apostille of their educational documents,” Andrei Ivanets added.
